What to Expect During the Trial
The SCS trial is a short-term test, typically lasting 5 to 7 days. It is performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia and light sedation. The doctor inserts the leads through a small needle and connects them to an external stimulator, which the patient controls. Over the trial period, patients track their pain relief, daily activities, and overall comfort to determine if spinal cord stimulation improves their quality of life.
Since the device is temporary, the leads are easily removed at the end of the trial. If the trial provides at least 50% pain relief, patients may be eligible for a permanent Spinal Cord Stimulator Implant for long-term pain management.
