Louisiana Pain Specialists Revolutionize Pain Treatment Therapy In New Orleans

Revolutionize Pain Treatment Therapy

Did you know that the Louisiana Pain Specialists were the first to use a revolutionary device designed to relieve pain in patients suffering from chronic pain in New Orleans? The device called, St. Jude Medical Axium™ Neurostimulator System for dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation, has been implanted by Dr. Suneil (Neil) Jolly on several patients.

The device is a non-opioid treatment option which provides effective pain relief. It contains primary sensory neurons that transmit pain signals from nerves to the brain via the spinal cord. Unlike other neurostimulation devices, this one delivers a form of spinal stimulation that can target the specific areas of the body where pain occurs.

“While spinal cord stimulation has offered us interventional pain physicians a useful therapy to offer our patients that have suffered from low back and extremity pain, we now have a modality in treating focal painful conditions,” explained Dr. Suneil (Neil) Jolly in an article.

Chronic pain affects more than 100 million Americans. Research suggests that, in total, the condition costs the American population an estimated 515 million work days annually and generates upwards of 40 million visits to physicians each year, according to the Institute of Medicine.

Studies have shown that patients treated with DRG stimulation experienced greater treatment success compared to patients receiving treatment with traditional neurostimulation devices.
