Following residency Dr. Kaufman wanted to return to the New Orleans area. His parents and his brother were all living in New Orleans and he missed the city he called home for so many years.
Upon returning to New Orleans, Dr. Kaufman was offered the Chairmanship of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department at Ochsner clinic foundation. This position also allowed him to travel to other parts of Louisiana in his position as chairman. Dr. Kaufman had been at Ochsner Clinic Foundation for nearly 15 years. While at Ochsner, Dr. Kaufman worked with patients who had varied needs. Many patients had head injuries, amputations, severe trauma, and almost all had significant pain. Dr. Kaufman headed the prosthetics / orthotics / gait clinics at Ochsner. He performed the majority of rehabilitation consults at Ochsner hospital. As his responsibilities at Ochsner increased, he was asked to be Chairman of the Occupational Medicine Department in addition to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. While teaching at Ochsner he held Assistant Professorships at Tulane Medical School and LSU Medical School. His areas of primary interest and focus are spine/ back pain, spasticity, prosthetics/ orthotics, pain management, and musculo-skeletal issues.
Dr. Kaufman is a Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Since joining Louisiana Pain Specialists, Dr. Kaufman has been instrumental in assisting our patient’s with all of their chronic pain needs. His expertise in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation has been an asset to assisting those suffering with all types of pain and he continues to serve the New Orleans community with his multidisciplinary approach.
