What Is DRG Stimulation?
This brand new technology has made a significant difference in the treatment of chronic pain. Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) stimulation therapy involves surgically placing a stimulator that targets the dorsal root ganglion to relieve pain of the lower limbs. Patients can use a hand-held iPod controller to change the stimulation settings within prescribed limits. The dorsal root ganglion (DRG) is a bundle of nerves that are located on the outside of the spinal cord.
Is DRG Stimulation Right For You?
If you suffer from Complex Regional Pain syndrome (CRPS), this new therapy might be right for you. CRPS is a chronic progressive disease characterized by severe pain, swelling and changes in the skin. There is also a Type II which is similar to Type I but involves overt damage to a peripheral nerve.
