Dr. Suneil ‘Neil’ Jolly and Louisiana Pain Specialists at LCMC Sports Medicine Annual Education Event

This month, at the invitation from David Gambel, Manager of Sports Medicine at LCMC, Dr. Suneil “Neil” Jolly and two of his midlevel providers at Louisiana Pain Specialists, Abigail Breland and Mia Trupiano, participated in an annual continuing education event for 32 of LCMC’s certified athletic trainers at New Orleans East Hospital. Dr. Jolly and his team gave a presentation about the basics of pain management and its goals, including procedure-based care and safe opioid medication management, as underscored by the S.A.F.E. Initiative – a grassroots campaign started by Dr. Suneil ‘Neil’ Jolly in 2016 to help combat the opioid epidemic in the Greater New Orleans area.

Dr. Suneil ‘Neil’ Jolly and his team highlighted some traditional interventional procedures typically seen in most pain management practices, including lumbar and cervical epidural steroid injections, peripheral joint injections, and cervical and lumbar facet joint injections and rhizotomies. One step further, however, Dr. Jolly also highlighted the most recent advances pain management technology, highlighting lesser known and less traditional minimally invasive treatments, including spinal cord stimulation, Vertiflex for spinal stenosis, SI joint fusion by PainTeq for sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Dr. Suneil ‘Neil’ Jolly is one of the few providers in the Gulf region who can offer these interventions to his patients at Louisiana Pain Specialists.

Emphasizing the importance of managing pain with a comprehensive approach, Dr. Jolly educated the audience that pain management is just one piece of the puzzle when striving for the most successful patient outcome. Treatment of pain must be a multi-disciplinary collaborative effort between physical therapists, trainers, surgeons, and other specialties.
